Guests are invited to attend from 4pm, where they will be greeted with a glass of bubbly or a soft drink, depending on their preference, prior to availing themselves of the sylvan pleasures of Castle Goring’s grounds. These are set in their own park overlooking a beautiful, bucolic field, and guests are encouraged to mingle until 5pm, at which time they will be invited to join Lady C in the Ceremonial Hall for the first part of her one-woman show.
In the first part of her show, Lady C covers the ground of her incredible and turbulent life, which began in Jamaica, prior to moving to New York and becoming a model, then marrying the second son of the notorious 11th Duke of Argyll, whose sensational divorce from the fabled beauty Margaret, Duchess of Argyll was covered in the critically-acclaimed BBC TV series, A Very British Scandal.
Divorced amidst equally lurid headlines internationally, Lady C was a staple in the gossip columns before creating a worldwide sensation in 1992 with the publication of her ground-breaking best seller Diana in Private. This work revealed the true state of the then Prince and Princess of Wales’s marriage, their love affairs, her eating disorder, and much else. Since then, she has been the author of several critically acclaimed, best-selling books, and in 2015, created a national sensation as a contestant on “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of here” following her purchase of the Shelley ancestral home, Castle Goring in 2014.
Her naturalness, wit, and forthright demeanour have earned her many admirers and some detractors, especially when she asserted that her reason for entering the jungle was “whoring for Goring” as the castle needed a new roof. Having met everyone of consequence from the late Queen Elizabeth II, Pope John Paul II, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, to working in her youth as the Libyan Ambassador’s Private Secretary, hers has been a life well and fully lived, and in the second half of the show, which follows a half an hour break and runs from 6.15 to 7.00pm, she encourages guests to ask questions on any subject.
After the show concludes at 7pm, there will be a meet and greet and opportunity for selfies, with carriages at 8pm.
